BREEDERREADY GUIDE · ENGLAND & WALES
Prepare for a dog breeding inspection with records you can find.
Use the days before a visit to check your arrangements, review your paperwork and make sure you can produce the records your inspector asks to see.
Ask what the inspector needs
Confirm the visit arrangements and requested documents with your local authority. The licensing frameworks in England and Wales differ, so work from the conditions and guidance that apply to your establishment.
In England, the statutory guidance requires licence records to be available for inspection in a readable form, including records held electronically. Check the requirements attached to your own licence.
Work through your preparation before the visit
- Check establishment details. Make sure the responsible person, premises information and animal details are current.
- Review policies. Read the whole draft and check that the people carrying out the work can follow it.
- Resolve gaps. Missing answers and evidence need attention; a completed screen alone does not establish compliance.
- Choose your record dates. Bring together the care history relevant to the period requested by the inspector.
- Open your evidence. Check that attached files are readable and the references point to the right document.
What the BreederReady inspection view contains
The inspection dashboard brings together establishment details, policy drafts, dogs, litters, puppies, care history and supporting evidence. Officer mode provides a read-only view for reviewing those materials during the visit.
The pack’s date range applies to care entries and puppy weights. Policies, animal details and evidence are included separately rather than being filtered by that range. Buyer contact records, invoices and expenses are excluded from the inspection dashboard and its export.
Keep a usable copy ready
Download your inspection pack before the visit and open it to check the contents. Download supporting attachments separately where you need copies outside the workspace. This gives you paperwork to refer to alongside the online view.
The inspection tools are included with licence preparation. They organise your own information and record your review; they do not certify compliance or guarantee an inspection result.
Check the guidance for your area
England and Wales have different licensing frameworks. Confirm the application process, licence conditions and evidence needed with your own local authority.
