BREEDERREADY GUIDE · ENGLAND & WALES

Dog breeding licence preparation, one step at a time.

Start with what happens in your own breeding establishment. Clear policies and organised evidence are easier to prepare when they describe the routines you actually follow.

Begin with your council’s requirements

In England, applications are made through the local council. Your council can explain the process, fees and information it needs. If you breed in Wales, check the Welsh guidance and your local authority’s application arrangements rather than applying English requirements to your premises.

BreederReady supports preparation in England and Wales. It helps organise your work; the local authority decides your application.

Write down how your establishment works

Gather your premises details, dog information and day-to-day routines before drafting policies. Useful preparation topics include cleaning, feeding, exercise, enrichment, puppy socialisation, isolation and emergency arrangements.

  1. Describe who carries out each routine, where it happens and how often.
  2. Check product instructions, veterinary advice and the arrangements you can actually provide.
  3. Link relevant supporting evidence, such as a cleaning rota, product label or premises plan.
  4. Identify missing information and work through it before reviewing the finished draft.

How BreederReady helps

The guided policy questions turn your answers into drafts for review. “Help me with this” explains the question and offers a starting point. Missing answers and selected gaps stay visible so you can continue preparing without losing track of them.

Review each policy against your actual arrangements, then use the preparation and inspection downloads to organise your paperwork. BreederReady does not submit an application for you or guarantee approval.

What does preparation cost?

Licence preparation is £69.99 for 12 months. The first preparation purchase includes three months of Logs & records, then £14.99 per month unless cancelled. Preparation renewal is optional and separate from the records subscription.

Check the guidance for your area

England and Wales have different licensing frameworks. Confirm the application process, licence conditions and evidence needed with your own local authority.
